Baltimore’s Overdose Crisis
April 6, 2024

Donna Bruce trains Towanda Beckett on how to use Narcan while her hair dries inside of Bruce’s salon in Baltimore, Md., on April 6, 2024. After losing her son to an overdose in 2021, Bruce created an organization that provides training to people who suffer from mental health and substance misuse to become certified peer recovery specialists. “I couldn’t save my son,” she said. “I took that pain and turned it into purpose.”
